Hotel Hotel

We were in Canberra last weekend to finally check out Hotel Hotel. It’s a beautifully designed hotel in Canberra’s NewActon precinct with recycled timber, textured walls, and vintage furniture everywhere you look. It’s very eco-chic and I love it!

Each of the hotel rooms is unique. We stayed in one of the Creative rooms which was very spacious for me and Noah. We requested for a room with lots of natural light. Our room was facing a highway but coming from Sydney, the traffic noise did not bother us. The bathroom was really nice and huge (plus points for having a rain shower). I loved that it was stocked with Aesop products.

We encountered two problems during our stay- the first one was with the minibar. It was not fully replenished before we arrived and then we were charged for the missing items so we had to dispute it after. I found that the room was not fully cleaned either. There was one drinking glass with a a lipstick stain on it and there was a discarded chocolate wrapper in the corner behind our room door. This lack of attention to detail was a shame because I loved everything else about the hotel.

My favourite parts about our stay were reading in the hotel library that was stocked with art, architecture and design books from Perimeter Books, and ordering room service from Monster Kitchen and Bar (while watching a Sir David Attenborough documentary!) We went crazy with the room service and ordered six dishes (one dish too many for me and Noah). The food from Monster Kitchen and Bar, which is located in the ground floor of the hotel, was delicious. The best one was the Roasted Bugs Tails dish.

If it weren’t for the two hiccups during our stay, I would definitely stay here again. Next time we’re in Canberra though I would like to check out the other new hotels, like the QT Canberra Hotel or Little National Hotel perhaps.
